Getting started
- Open Heka and allow sending your voice for transcription.
- Pick a transcription provider (AssemblyAI or Soniox) and paste your API key. AI cleanup uses your own Anthropic key.
- Add the keyboard: Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Add New Keyboard → Heka.
- Tap Heka in that list and turn on Allow Full Access. Typing works without it; dictation needs it.
- In any text field, long-press the globe key and pick Heka. Tap the mic to dictate.
Common questions
Why does dictation need Full Access? Keyboards can't use the microphone on iPhone. The Heka app listens and passes the text to the keyboard through storage shared between the two. Heka never records what you type.
Why is the orange mic dot on? Heka keeps the mic ready for a short time so the keyboard can start instantly. Turn it off from the Live Activity, or shorten the timeout in Heka's Settings.
Where does my voice go? Straight to the provider you chose, using your key. See the privacy policy.
